Just me and my guitar (Open)

I leant back against a tree beside the lake, my guitar lying on the grass beside me. It was a beautiful summer's day and it was pretty hot. Me and my family had just moved here yesterday, so I had come to hang out here whilst they sorted out the furniture and unpacked everything.

I picked up my guitar and rested on my knee, letting my fingers lazily strum the strings. After a few moments of making sure it was in tune, I started to play the tune of one of my favourite songs. It was 'Broken Strings' by James Morrison and Nelly Furtado. James used a lot of guitar in his songs, so I knew how to play a lot of him. I also knew the words to the song so I sung along softly to myself. As I played, I let my eyes wander to take in the beautiful landscape around me. The lake was clearest blue and the grass a luscious green. On the other side of the lake, there was someone playing with a dog but I couldn't see anyone near me. I didn't mind. It was nice to be able to play my guitar in peace.

The day couldn't have been better. Her horse had broken out of her stall (again). It took an hour to catch her, and the irresponsible stable-hand who forgot to padlock the stall door in the first place. When they found her, she was ready to get hit by a car near the road. Once they got back, they were informed that someone got dumped in the indoor and had sprained their arm.
Ah, what a joyous day.

Marie growled angrily to herself as she shoved her boot into the iron stirrup of her saddle, and hoisted herself up onto her friesian gelding's back. Shadow fidgeted underneath her as she settled herself comfortably in her English saddle. What's wrong today, girl? Shadow said to himself. As if in response to his words, Marie began grumbling the occurrences of the day. Ah. Well, you wouldn't have had any problems with Firefly if you'd just let her run around more. She needs some freedom too, y'know.

Marie sighed, and relaxed slightly. She could forget the day on the trails. Clicking her tongue and tapping Shadow's sides lightly, she asked her mount to move forward. With a fluid motion, Shadow broke into a graceful trot, his long, wavy mane and tail flowing like flags. Reining him to the right, they went past the willow tree that marked the entranced to the Willow Trail.

Marie sat contentedly in her saddle, Shadow now at a comfortable, lazy walk. She thought of the better events of the day, and looked forward to making it even better. After all, it wasn't even past noon yet. The sun was at its peak, and its heat penetrated even the thick foliage of the overhead trees. The light shimmered and sparkled on the creek beside the trail, and everything was bathed in emerald green. It had been quite a while now, and the trees were finally beginning to thin. The lake was near. She tightened her reins slightly, and asked Shadow for a canter; wrong move. Ah, a good run to stretch the underused limbs! Shadow exclaimed happily, and lurched into a speedy gallop. Leaves and dirt were thrown about from his shod heels, and Marie hung onto his long mane for dear life.
Breaking through the treeline and onto the grassy area around the lake, Shadow didn't even begin to stop. The Lake! Well, lets go for a swim, shall we? Shadow said, hooves still pounding the earth. Ears pricked forward, Shadow galloped full-speed toward the clear blue lake; at least it was very warm today.
Mustering up her strength, Marie tightened her reins and barked loudly and firmly, "Woah!"
Ears swiveling around to listen, Shadow immediately responded to the command. If you say so.
Shadow dug in his heels, and Marie found herself flying up and over his head, and into the clear lake waters with a loud splash.
Shadow whinnied with laughter on the shore, and Marie felt tears pricking at her eyes. "Shut up Shadow..." said choked, still sitting in the shallows of the lake.
Not my fault you can't hold on. Shadow chuckled, calming himself. He then quietly stood where he was, waiting for his drenched rider to get out of the water. Marie scanned the lake's shores, and she spotted someone not too far off; she hoped the person hadn't seen her spill. She blushed at the thought. Sighing, she got to her feet and plodded to her horse. Grabbing his reins, she led him to the nearest sunny spot, and tied him out of the sunlight. She then proceeded into the warmest spot, and lay in the grass to dry before she headed back to the stables.

OOC: lol, long. xD

Ashtyn O'Connor stared angrily at her horse. She had spent the past hour trying to saddle up the fiesty mare. "Come on Stormy! Don't you want to go for a ride?" Ashtyn pleaded, stomping her foot like a five-year-old.
No, replied the Anglo-Arab, I would rather go for a swim.
"Fine. We can go to the lake, but you have to let me put on your saddle first!"
No! The saddle means no swim. You've pulled this one twice already! Don't think you'll get away with it a third time! Stormy snorted, eying the saddle disdainfully.
"Alright, alright. We'll go bareback today. But no pranks allowed!" Ashtyn laughed as she hefted the saddle back to the tack room. Upon returning, she mounted her horse and took off. Ashtyn clucked her tongue and Stormy sped up to a canter. Within minutes, the pair reached the glistening lake.
Jump? The mare questioned, her ears swiveling back to here her master.
"Oh, why not?" Ashtyn giggled as Stormy's dark chestnut mane whipped her face. Stormy pushed off a ledge and soared beautifully through the air. Ashtyn screamed gleefully as they plunged into the frigid water.
Oohh, so cold! Stormy whinnied as she climbed out of the icy water.
"You're the one who wanted to do that!" The redhead shivered. Her good mood was wiped away though when she saw two others on the lakeshore.
"Great. What a way to make a first impression." Ashtyn groaned.

OOC: Bleh. That was crap. ~*~
